not just another new year's resolution
January 21, 2010 Well, it's mid-January and for many of us that means we're still on the wagon (hanging on by the skin of our teeth maybe) with those lofty New Year's Resolutions. Most of the time New Year's resolutions are about bettering ourselves. Losing weight, getting back in shape, getting organized, getting out of debt, stopping bad habits, etc. These resolutions are great, but what about other people? the community in which you live? Where do they come in? We're not condeming personal growth in anyway, in fact, its an important part of discipleship. Just think about others too. It's not too late to add a resolution to serve others in 2010.
As we are scheduling events for 2010, we have become aquainted with a variety of wonderful charitable organizations and ministries in Statesville and the surrounding area. Opportunities to serve others are numerous. Many of the organizations we have contacted need more than just a meal or fundraiser that we can provide. They need volunteers.
Have you ever volunteered your time to a charity, shelter, or ministry? It is not nearly as complicated as you might think. The hardest part is putting aside pride and humbling yourself to serve a stranger. On many occasions Jesus humbled himself in service to others. Why not follow His example and get involved with a worthy organization this year? You may find that it is just as good for you as it is for those you're serving.
God Bless!
